Accountant in Kunda Park

For the businesses on the estate: payroll tax, utes and the wage bill

Payroll, FBT, payroll tax and compliance for Kunda Park workshops, warehouses and manufacturers, from a CPA practice registered with the Tax Practitioners Board.

Kunda Park is an industrial suburb of Buderim, 5.0 km north-west of its centre. Apart from a conservation park along Eudlo Creek and a small grazing area beside it, the suburb is industrial. Only 22 people lived there at the 2021 census. Lomandra Accounting supports Sunshine Coast businesses from setup to succession with compliance and strategy that fit real operations.

The estate

Named in 1975, and almost all industrial.

The area was once known locally as Crete. The Queensland Place Names Board named the township of Kunda Park on 1 May 1975, from the Kabi word gunda or konda, meaning cabbage tree palm. Eudlo Creek, a tributary of the South Maroochy River, forms its northern boundary. Besides the industrial lots, the suburb holds the Maroochydore Regional Football Complex and the Maroochydore SES facility.

Three obligations grow with a business's payroll and fleet: state payroll tax, vehicles provided to staff, and award-based wages for a crew.

Three obligations that grow with the business

Queensland payroll tax

Why it happens

As a business adds staff, its total Australian taxable wages climb towards the Queensland threshold.

Why it matters

The Queensland Revenue Office sets the annual threshold at $1.3 million in Australian taxable wages. The rate is 4.75% for employers or groups paying $6.5 million or less, and 4.95% above that. Between the threshold and $10.4 million, the deduction reduces by $1 for every $7 of taxable wages over the threshold. Eligible regional employers pay discounted rates of 3.75% and 3.95% until 30 June 2030.

How we help

We prepare and lodge income tax returns, activity statements, FBT, payroll tax, and ASIC documents on time, with reconciliations that stand up to review.

Utes provided to staff

Why it happens

A workshop gives its tradespeople or delivery staff a ute to take home.

Why it matters

A single cab ute can be exempt from FBT under the work-related use exemption. A dual cab qualifies only if it is not designed mainly to carry passengers, and dual cabs are not automatically exempt. The exemption covers home-to-work travel, travel for work, and private use that is minor, infrequent and irregular. A ute used as the family car or for weekend trips falls outside it. No logbook is required, but records must show the use stayed within the conditions, such as odometer readings checked against the home-to-work distance.

How we help

When rules change, we translate what is relevant for your position and update your compliance calendar.

Award wages for a crew

Why it happens

An industrial business employs staff under one or more awards, with overtime, shift loadings and allowances.

Why it matters

Each pay run is reported through Single Touch Payroll, and award settings in the payroll software decide whether the rates, loadings and super are right.

How we help

You get clean data and monthly reports that make cash flow and profitability easier to track.

Frequently asked questions

When does a Kunda Park business start paying Queensland payroll tax?

When its Australian taxable wages, or those of its group, pass the $1.3 million annual threshold. The rate is 4.75% up to $6.5 million in wages.

Are our work utes exempt from FBT?

A single cab ute can be. A dual cab qualifies only if it is not designed mainly for passengers. In both cases, private use must be minor, infrequent and irregular, and you need records that show it.

Can Lomandra Accounting lodge our FBT and payroll tax?

Yes. We prepare and lodge income tax returns, activity statements, FBT, payroll tax, and ASIC documents on time.
